I know
that you have surveyed this site in the past, can you
give me a copy on disk?
- Like an old master
negative, an archive copy of the survey is kept
on record. Like an old master negative there is a
cost involved in reproducing a duplicate copy.
-
- It is our company
policy to only issue copies of the original data
to our original client. The rates
reflect the amount of processing involved in
restoring the data from archive, processing the
data, materials post and packing and the surveyor
/ workstation time.
-
- If the Survey is more
than two years old or if the site has changed
hands and a new development team is involved then
we cannot issue information without a site
inspection and update by a Survey Team.
-
- This policy is
imposed on us by our insurers and ensures that
the information issued is fully covered by all
the usual insurances and guarantees you expect
from a new Survey
-
- Please contact us, quoting the Job No of
File Name for verification of file sizes and we
will despatch your disks on receipt of payment.

Why have
you left the Drawing No off the drawing?
- Yes, the drawing number box on
the title sheet is probably left blank, this is
intentional and for our Clients to complete with
a number in their own naming convention.
-
- The important and unique
information from the ELS point of view is the
File Name and Job Number shown in the Title Box.

Why can't
I insert your Survey on my site layout?
- It could be the Units.
- The
default setting for most Survey Companies is
metres, this is historical and dates back many
years (even in the days of imperial levels, the
grid system was metric), the Ordnance Survey
National Grid is quoted in metres and in an
effort to keep numbers small on large sites a
system of one drawing unit equals one metre is adopted.
-
- If your
drawing is using 1 drawing unit equals 1mm
then you could insert our drawing at a factor of
0.001. on the X and Y axis. (It would be a
good idea to change the insertion base point on
our drawing first so that is does not get lost in
hyperspace. The
base point of our drawing is 0,0, use the AutoCad BASE Command to set the
insertion base point to the bottom left corner of
the sheet or some other known point on the survey.)
-
- The best course of action is
to specify the units you require before we
deliver the data files, we have a quick simple
routine to convert from metres to millimetres
before delivery, this allows us to work in metres
as usual and then automatically carry out all the
commands above and also change settings like
LTSCALE to the correct values.
